About
These four études were written for the 2024 Lilburn Composition Competition. The first étude imitates a piano practice technique, where the hands are directly mirror each other. The second explores the quiet sonorities that can be produced on one finger, and at opposing ends of the instrument. The third étude, as the title suggests, bases itself around chordal sonorities, and the final étude, marked ‘Lazy groove’, develops coordination and independence between the hands. Each étude explores a different interval, focusing on fourths, fifths, thirds, and sevenths respectively.
