About
I have a weird relationship with classical vocal technique, but there are some things for which that style is undeniably right. An abstract representation of the sea is one: its awesome power, its inhuman scale, its tempting allure, its fearsome danger, and the age-old calculus of risk versus reward. The genre of the siren song – a warning from beyond the deep – has so much delicious dramatic potential. My take is part Peter Grimes, part Ursula the Sea Witch.
