About

Haec dies is an antiphon text associated in the Roman Catholic church with the masses sung on Easter Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The traditional Latin words translate as: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

The composer, as a Buddhist, associates these with the practice of mindfulness, which encourages one to be as fully present as possible to each passing moment. Modal transformations of the original plainchant — different versions for saxophone and piano — work their way through the fabric of the score.
