About
The seven short movements that make up so flamed in the air trace the genesis of the musical event that is stated in its entirety in the second movement. The gradual modification, deconstruction and expansion of this idea gives rise to a network of events that form the basis of the other movements. Each of the movements represents a rounded phase of growth arising from a series of “collisions” of the events from the network. The result is a scattering and reconfiguring of interrelated material throughout the entire composition, giving rise to a homologous structure in which apparent contrasts conceal inner similarities based on a shared ancestry.
so flamed in the air was commissioned by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and premiered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in February 2021 under the baton of Italian conductor Marco Angius.
