About
The Ashburton Area Schools Music Orchestral Course was an annual event involving young student musicians of primary and intermediate school age. In 1995, the composer was commissioned to write a piece of music based on a well known children's story book. The music follows the journey of a young Maori boy and his friend, a taniwha, as they discover the rich experiences associated with the Maori gods of the sea, sky and earth. The music is accompanied by a narration of the story by Robyn Kahukiwa (used with permission).
