About

Le Jardin is a setting for baritone and piano of Oscar Wilde’s poem ‘Le Jardin’, no. 1 of Impressions. It was composed in October 2017 in Xinzheng, Henan, China and subsequently rearranged for baritone solo in October 2018 as the first of Three Poems of Oscar Wilde for baritone solo. The musical language is direct, the open harmonies in the piano part, minor tonality of the second section of the piece as well as the work’s generally low tessitura reflecting the sense of pathos inherent in the poem’s meaning.
