First Light is a New Zealand Christmas carol, with text by the composer, which compares the biblical 'light of the world' to the dawn light over the New Zealand mountains, bush and sea. It was written for Leonie Lawson on her retirement as conductor of Cantemus Choir (for which the composer was accompanist).
