About
This suite of eleven piano pieces is a celebration of the iconic public gardens in Hamilton, New Zealand. Covering 54 hectares on the banks of the Waikato River, the Hamilton Gardens features a series of enclosed gardens on a range of themes as well as open lawns, rose and camellia gardens, lakes and bush walks. This piano suite begins with a beguiling stroll 'Across the Rhododendron Lawn', before 'Entering the Piazza' and exploring delights such as 'The Indian Char Bagh Garden', 'The Japanese Garden of Contemplation', 'The Concept Garden' and 'The Surrealist Garden'. The suite concludes with 'Singing in the Rose Garden'. A Walk in Hamilton Gardens was written as a performing, teaching and recording project for NZ pianist Katherine Austin.
