About

The Processional was originally just a series of chords, written by the composer to improvise on during Communion at church. The chords were played through in a particular order, forward and backwards, and expanded upon, and the composer decided that it sounded like a properly functional piece, and wrote it down in that form. Since then it became a staple part of the composer's liturgical repertoire. It was also played at a mass by harpist Tegan Peemoller, in Vancouver, Canada.

The title 'Processional' is not supposed to be liturgical in meaning, and neither is the piece. Rather, 'processional' refers to the gentle flow of the chords throughout the work, as if in procession. The tempo indication for the piece is 'solennemente, ma con gioia', or 'solemnly, but with joy', which is how the composer describes the feel of the work.
