About

Carousel is an energetic piece, beginning with repetitive patterns alternating in the saxophones, against which the piano gradually imposes itself. Much of the work is exuberant, although there are some more reflective sections giving the saxophones more lyrical moments.

The title came late in the process of writing the work was was suggested by the cycling patterns that start the work - suggestive of a fairground carousel endlessly turning round and round. The energy of some sections also suggests the busy noise and clamour of fairgrounds.
