About

Written for and premiered by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in commemoration of the WWI centenary. Inspired by the following letter from a WWI soldier. Used by permission from the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

"Do you ever Daisy, worry about life and its ‘riddle’. Hundreds have wondered and attempted to solve the Riddle of the Universe and as I think of my life and especially the last 2 years I too wonder and wonder. Will the mystery ever be solved and what is there beyond this life? I wonder. Do you Daisy? As a youngster I used to enjoy climbing a hill and then lying on my back gazing away into space and wondering!! But we never get any further! Do we?" - Herbert William King to Daisy Slodel (17 January 1917)
