About
The text for this work is a short extract from a longer text I encountered in Christchurch at the conclusion to the 'Quake City' attraction which details the events of the series of earthquakes that struck the city beginning in September 2010. The text, in both Māori and English, is displayed as one leaves the attraction, and is not credited to anyone. It’s is given the title 'Mihi Whakatuwhera' and begins by lamenting the pain and suffering that the city has gone through, and ends by entreating all to move forward with a positive spirit. This work sets only the first stanza in both languages. In Māori protocol, a mihi is a speech of greeting or tribute.
