About
The dialogue between the Euphonium and the Fixed Media part undergoes several sweeping changes in mood; sometimes initiated by the Euphonium, other times by the Fixed Media part.
The title has multiple meanings, all of which can be interpreted or referenced within the sound world of the work.
Commissioned note
Sound Barrel for Euphonium and Fixed Media was written for Byron Newton in 2012-2013.
Contents note
Most of the score is self-explanatory. Using the minute/seconds the performer can practise sections of the piece. Generally there are cues in the Fixed Media part that can help the performer. At 7’28”, the performer momentarily ignores the beat, (placing the notes equidistant between the aggressive sounds in the Fixed Media), then in the following bar returns to the beat as normal.
