About

The composition of this short work for choir and piano duet was prompted by conductor John Rosser's enquiry as to whether I had any choral works for those forces. While I have several works with piano duet accompaniment, they tend to be works intended for larger choirs or with multiple choirs (the bigger sound from four hands on one piano being more useful with a larger choral sound).

Having set Spanish poetry several times, I was once again drawn back into it, and for the first time the poetry of Juan Ramon Jiménez (1881-1958). This short poem contrasts the lover coming to the bridge of love (an eternal meeting place), and the loved one who is likened to water (something that passes away, but also does not deceive or end). This one of the poet's shorter poems, somewhat akin to an aphorism containing a single profound thought.
