About
Open Waters an inclusive orchestral experience with and for people with disabilities.
Open Waters: the title itself suggests inclusiveness, which is what the eXceptional Orchestra is all about. When Kim Kredich approached composer Stephan Prock just a few months ago with the idea of a piece of music that would integrate a wide range of performance ability levels in one work, Prock accepted the challenge. “The concept seemed obvious, once we started,” he says. “I began to see the possibilities; now I’m surprised that nobody thought of it before.” The water theme had its genesis in some ocean drums that Kredich already owned. Prock adopted the theme readily, since the fluidity and pictorial possibilities of water sounds presented a variety of musical ideas to him. Prock calls the piece a “voyage of discovery.”
