About
While playing it, and also searching for a new mode of expression for this venerable instrument, it was discovered that the body and strings of the harpsichord will emit all sorts of unexpected sounds if it is musically activated in unconventional ways - bowing, scraping, rubbing etc. These inner voices of the instrument have been closely recorded then amplified and interwoven with a series normally played, typically harpsichordish gestures. Over this a live harpsichord part is performed, one which reflects some further aspects of the historical character of harpsichord music, including fast figurations, crisp chords and linear clarity. So the public and (normally) inner, private voices of the instrument are brought together into an unusual performance relationship.
Notes taken from Toru, Atoll CD (ACD 143)
