About

Setting of a 16th century sonnet by French poet Philippe de Ronsard, lamenting the death of his lover whom he compares to a rose. For 'a cappella' SATB choir with baritone and soprano soloists. Many divisions. Composed in New Zealand for Viva Voce and revised in the United States. Premiere by Viva Voce in 1994. Premiere of revised version by Eastman Chorale in Rochester November 21, 1997. Memorable and highly romantic music. "......an almost Straussian voluptuousness." (Music in New Zealand, 1994)
