About

This piece was composed at the close of the Second World War. The subheading reads: 'The young pine-tree at Diamond Harbour [on Banks Peninsula] dreams of a forest giant in the North.' The arch-shaped opening motif represents the pine, while Tane Mahuta [New Zealand's famously large kauri tree] speaks in the restorative, deep-rooted response.
