About

A long time fascination with the movement and sound of water provided the stimulus for a work in which I concentrated on the idea of simulating the interplay of different rates of movement in various sound textures. These range from the gentle movement in a pool to the turbulence of a swift flowing river.

With the Current was commissioned by the Australian new music ensemble Flederman with funding from the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council of New Zealand and the New Zealand Composers Foundation. The work was first performed by this ensemble at the University of Adelaide on 6 May 1986.

This work was recorded by the Karlheinz Company in March 1989.

Commissioned note
