About

Kenneth Young takes the hot seat opposite interviewer and instigator of the Baby Boomer Composer interview series, Donald Maurice. Ken’s entire life has been spent pursuing music. His father had him playing the cornet at age 7, the beginnings of a trajectory through brass bands and on into 25 years of tuba playing for the NZSO. But composing and conducting were ever-present, and these became Ken’s split career from the age of 45.

Ken discusses his life in music with illustrations by way of his violin concerto Remembering and his Symphony No. 3.

Filmed and edited by Chris Watson for the Resound Project (funded by NZ On Air). Audio recorded by Graham Kennedy.
