About

In the spirit of the late Jack Body, composer and guitarist Dylan Lardelli is constantly cultivating musical and cultural links between New Zealand and the Asian region, most notably Japan.

New Zealand Festival’s ‘Distances’ concert (and an accompanying tour) marked a third visit to New Zealand of notable Japanese performers Mayumi Miyata (shō), Nanae Yoshimura (koto) and Tosiya Suzuki (recorder) - joined this time by the bass koto of Makiko Goto.

Drawing on his strong connections with musicians in Germany, Dylan also arranged so that the Japanese contingent was joined on this occasion by Hannah Weirich (violin), and Peter Veale (oboe), both members of the highly regarded Ensemble MusikFabrik.

Filmed and edited by Chris Watson for the Resound Project (funded by NZ On Air). Audio provided by RNZ Concert.
