In part four Rob discusses the freedoms and responsibilities of the role, with particular emphasis on his work not just with student composers, but with students of musicology, ethnomusicology, performance, music therapy, sonic arts and even cultural anthropology.
The appointment of a non “dots and lines” composer by the NZSM was, he posits, a risk, but one that acknowledges an important branch of music making in Aotearoa and one that sparks a number of new and important discussions.
