About

University of Auckland Senior Lecturer Dr Leonie Holmes spoke at the 2017 Composers Association of New Zealand conference about the cross-cultural compositional endeavours of New Zealand composers Michael Norris, Victoria Kelly, Gillian Whitehead and, of course, Jack Body. In this Resound film she "explores the challenges in composing for an ensemble which combines musical instruments from two different cultures, including instruments with different tuning systems, playing methods, and melodic and harmonic frameworks; and considers how composers have collaborated with performance practitioners to respect the differing historical, cultural and spiritual significance of these instruments."

Filmed and edited by Chris Watson for the Resound Project (funded by NZ On Air).
