Michael Norris: Blind Light: on the morphology of an idea - VIDEO

Michael Norris bravely shares with us a diary kept during the writing of a work for saxophone and electronics in this presentation from the CANZ Conference entitled "Blind Light: on the morphology of an idea."

The creative void that is present before any art is made is, says Michael, a mist-filled place in which composers "grope around, unable to see our outstretched hands, but aiming, through navigation and recalling of landmarks, to delineate the dimensions and form of our imagined space." Michael describes this presentation as "part creative process journal, part manifesto, part therapy, documenting the numerous intertwining threads of creative influence, conceptual interconnectedness and critical self-reflection" encountered during the compositional process.
