SOUNZ Community Commission 2024
Call for Applications

Applications are now open for the SOUNZ Community Commission 2024

The project brings together New Zealand professional composers and community groups to create and perform a new work. Now in its 25th year, the commission has resulted in works for diverse groups such as a community group for young people with learning disabilities, community choirs, experimental sound artists, youth orchestras and children’s theatre.

The commission consists of a grant of $2,000, which is awarded to a professional composer to enable them to engage with a community group he/she has not worked with before. The aim is to support a collaborative process between the composer and a community group, and to create a series of resources based on the experiences of the two parties involved. A further $800 is available for the successful group to hold a public performance or concert for the resulting work.

We welcome submissions from New Zealand composers working with diverse community and cultural groups such as choir, orchestra, chamber, kapa haka (youth, schools, church, kaumātua, community), and other groups.  Proposals for projects from composers should be emailed, with the completed application form, to [email protected] by 5pm Monday 29 July 2024
