Marc Taddei conducts the Vector Wellington Orchestra in this programme of music from opposite ends of the earth.
Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms – impassioned, poignant and effervescent in turn – for soprano, choir and orchestra, opens this scintillating concert.
Changing moods continue in Gareth Farr’s Triple Concerto with its virtuosic mix of lyricism, fire, and a distinct Aotearoa sound. Triple soloists for the Triple Concerto are the New Zealand Trio.
Then the drama of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, fantastic tales of the Arabian Nights, offering blazing sweeps of orchestral colour, sensual melodies, and Oriental flavour.
There is a free pre-concert talk one hour prior to the performance.
