This concert from the Auckland Philharmonia is for teenagers to engage with orchestral role models and to understand the workings of a symphony orchestra. Discover NZ Music showcases six NZ orchestral composers talking about their pieces, which are then played.
This concert will include The Ghosts of Denniston by Dorothy Buchanan and From the Depths Sounds the Great Sea Gongs by Gareth Farr with the composers present, linking in with the NCEA NZ Music teaching units.
Also included is Music from the 2004 Olympics by John Psathas, movement 1 of Karlo Margetic's Xylophone Concerto, Wenn die Dämmerung verdammt wird by Celeste Oram and an arrangement of music from Once Were Warriors .
A free study pack contains information to prepare students for the concert.
