Musica Sacra present their final performance of the 2009 season: their highly popular annual Christmas Concert.
As part of an enjoyable and varied programme, they will give the first New Zealand performances of three very beautiful carols by Margaret Wegener, formerly from England but now a New Zealand resident and near neighbour of conductor Indra Hughes. Margaret Wegener knew and worked with Ralph Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells, and her delightful compositions are reminiscent of their style.
Dr John Wells will play a selection of organ solos by JS Bach and others, including his own virtuoso Variations on Adeste Fideles for organ pedals. The choir will sing a wide range of Christmas music from the High Renaissance to the present day; and there will be plenty of opportunity for the audience to enjoy singing several favourite traditional carols.
