The BIG SING is a nationwide festival of secondary school choral music hosted by the regional branches of the New Zealand Choral Federation. In 2008, 246 schools, comprising some 7,000 singers, entered the regional competitions held in Northland, Auckland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, East Coast, Manawatu/Wanganui, Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough/ Nelson / West Coast, Canterbury/Westcoast, Otago and Southland.
Choirs are all required to include a New Zealand work in their performance programme and in this Wellington regional festival the Samuel Marsden Collegiate Senior Chorale will premiere a work they commissioned themselves: Fresh Wind Fresh Fire by Jonathan Crehan.
